Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri the Mutawwalin Kirchinga came to power with the promised eleven – point – agenda designed and articulated towards rescuing and curbing the devastating effects of under development characterised by bad governance in Adamawa. The mission was not farfetched as the Governor was able to match his words with action in the several areas earmarked by his able and dynamic administration of rescue mission.
Upon assumption into office, Governor Fintiri didn’t take much time in putting smiles on the faces of the teeming electorates who overwhelmingly elected him into power. In his capacity as the chief security officer of Adamawa, he degraded the activities of terror cult group of ‘Yan Shilla boys which has caused the residents of the state capital untold hardships.
Other elements of miscreant activities such as insurgency, cattle rustling, kidnappings, armed banditry have received adequate attention of the Governor. He purchased and distributed sixty hillux vans and fifty five motorcycles for “Operation Farauta”. He provided ten Toyota land cruisers to military in the state. He engaged number of hunters in the maintenance of security by giving them monthly allowance. All these were aimed at redefining the security architecture of Adamawa.
Education sector received the lion share of the capital expenditure presented to the state Assembly by the Governor. He declared free and compulsory education including free payment of WAEC and NECO aimed at providing equal educational opportunities to the citizenry. He reintroduced feeding programme in public boarding secondary schools which has been neglected for almost a decade. He paid the UBE counterpart funding which revived the famous activities of UBE in Adamawa.
Not withstanding, Governor Fintiri confiscated all plots of land in public schools sold to private individuals by the immediate past regime. He constituted a technical team that assessed all public schools in the state for immediate action. So far, renovation is ongoing in many schools across the twenty one local governments. He constituted a committee that sanitized and fished out quack lecturers in the institutions of higher learning in the state.
Worried by the infrastructural deficit in Adamawa, Governor Fintiri orders completion of all abandoned road and hospital projects across the state. Thereafter, he flagged off construction of of more than two hundred kilometers of rural roads and that of about twenty roads in the state capital. While three flyover bridges will also be constructed in the state capital. He approved mounting of traffic lights in the metropolitan capital and restored all the malfunctioned streetlights in the city.
Moreover, he approved for electrification of Toungo the only local government in Nigeria without power which is ninety percent completion at the moment. He also approved reconnection of Michika, Madagali local governments with the national grid which has been cut off during the peak of insurgency. Besides, he facilitated the taking over of construction of three bridges along Michika, Madagali axis destroyed by Boko Haram by the North East Development Commission NEDC from the federal ministry of works for speedy competition of the project.
The Governor redefined the civil service by sanitizing the system and curbing out nepotism, corruption among others. He introduced treasury single account TSA. He flagged off construction of two thousand houses for civil servants. He paid all other emoluments of workers including minimum wage of thirty two thousand naira. He prioritizes payment of salary between twenty third and twenty fifth of every month which has been corrupted by immediate past regime. As according to the Governor, payment of salary is must as it is not a privilege to workers but their rights.
Other sectors that received attention of Governor Fintiri include health, agricultural, water supply, youth empowerment to mention but a few. The Governor who has virtually achieved all his eleven point agenda within ten months in office deserves accolades from all and sundry. No wonder, the Leadership Company Limited, publishers of Leadership Newspapers found him worthy of the award. With the pace of work being carried by the Governor, more awards are still coming to his way. Governor Umaru Fintiri has really justified the confidence reposed in him by Adamawa electorate.
