Human trafficking: Roost Foundation set for launch in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja
A Non-governmental Organisation, Roost foundation is set to be launched in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Wednesday to counter issues of trafficking.
The foundation, an initiative of the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Human Trafficking and the immediate past Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffcking in Persons (NAPTIP), Dame Julie Okah–Donli, is established to join the fight against human trafficking, Sexual/Gender and Domestic–based violence.
The Foundation is also equipped to provide advocacy and awareness creation, critical humanitarian, pro bono legal and financial support as well as vital interventions for victims of human traffcking, sexual and gender based violence.
Roost foundation which will be taking off with a 50 seater capacity capacity skill acquisition Centre designed to offer life-saving skills and training for survivors and youths from diverse backgrounds, Radio Station for aggressive awareness and enlightenment programmes, a team of seasoned lawyers and legal experts ready to offer pro-bono services for victims as well as trained counsellors to offer psychosocial support.
The foundation has also lined up over 20 internationally rated Resource persons for the immediate take off of trainings and capacity building programmes for a cross section of actors and other stakeholders which include investigators, media, prosecutors, Counsellors, intelligence officers as well as members of the Civil Society Organisation in the counter trafficking sector.
The Executive Director, Roost foundation said, it is believed that the advent of Roost Foundation in partnership with NAPTIP and other relevant actors will help to reduce the incidences of human trafficking, sexual and gender-based violence and other forms of abuse in the country.
