Ikorodu Bois: Meet Nigeria’s remake gang taking the world by storm



By Anthony Maliki Nigeria is full of creative minds and Ikorodu Bois have taken the creative industry not only in Nigeria but globally by storm with their own kind of entertainment.  The comedy group, which began three years ago, remark videos and others in their own way gaining world-wide attention including Hollywood stars and entertainment firms.

According to information from Wikipedia, Ikorodu Bois recreates and mimics “multi-million dollar music videos and Hollywood movie trailers”. The group comprises three brothers and their cousin. The brothers are Babatunde Sanni, 23, Muiz Sanni,15, Malik Sanni, 10 and their cousin Fawas Aina, 13. The three young boys are usually involved in the videos and their eldest brother Babatunde edits the videos and manages them. They dubbed their name from the city of Ikorodu in Lagos, Nigeria where they live.

The group began in 2017, when Babatunde decided to share their skills to the world via social media. In an Interview with CNN, Babatunde said “I felt like ‘these things we are doing in our house — why don’t we start putting them online?'”. “Our house is like a comedy house — we play too much,” Babatunde told CNN.The group make use of household items to depict top gears used in movies. They also use the local wheel barrow to replicate luxury cars.

In April 2020, US actor and rapper Will Smith shared a clip of Ikorodu Bois Bad Boys Forever on his Instagram page with the caption “This is GENIUS @ikorodu_bois!!”. Alvaro Morte who starred as Professor in Money Heist after watching a mimicry of the Spanish Series scene said they did “What an amazing job”.

Ikorodu Bois have also done replica videos of DJ Cuppy, daughter of Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola, Nigerian US-based artists Davido, American actor and WWE star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Roddy Rich  Justin Bieber, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and did a farewell replica of NBA star Kobe Bryant shortly after his death.
