Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu kefas has vowed that his administration will soon declare a state of emergency in the education sector in the state.
He revealed that the devastating nature of the sector particularly in primary and secondary schools in the state calls for immediate action to salvage it from total collapse.
Dr. Kefas who disclosed this during his inaugural parlay with journalists in the state said as soon as his cabinet is in place, that there will be no going back in declaring a state of emergency in the education sector aimed at enabling the government to address the ugly situation once and for all.
According to him, his administration has already mapped out a five point agenda consisting of education, health, agriculture,infrastructure and payment of salary/pension/gratuity of workers and retirees to be carried out in a shortest period of time.
Apart from his assurances to engage over 80 percent youths into his cabinet, kefas further revealed that his administration will dwell in a wider consultation in the 16 local government areas to complete the number of appointees that will make up his cabinet.
He further revealed that the choice in the appointment of four key positions namely, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff (COS), Chief Press Secretary (CPS) and director of protocol on assumption on office May 29th was to enable him settled down for business immediately, pointing out that the appointment so far was done in good faith , based on experience.
While applauding journalists for balanced reportage, the governor said his doors are open for constructive criticism that will enable his administration to brace up for challenges.
Kefas however promises to change the agony of civil service in the state through training and retraining of workers for optimum performance just as he assured women of his administration’s readiness to carry them along in all fields of government establishments in the State.
