Ilorin confab: Political scientists, monarchs, others find solutions to Nigeria’s problems

Political scientists from all Nigerian universities will converge on Ilorin, Kwara state capital between May 25th and 27th to brainstorm and proffer solutions to myriad of problems confronting the nation.

Scholars of political science, practitioners of politics, policy makers, traditional rulers, scholars of other disciplines, media practitioners and students of Political Science will also participate in the three-day conference.

The acting Head of Political Science Department, University of Ilorin, Dr. AbdulRasheed Alada Muhammad disclosed while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on Wednesday.

He added that the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) is dedicating her 33rd annual conference to efforts at finding solution to challenges confronting the nation.

Muhammad said:” After two decades of democratic practice, the aggregate achievement level of democracy in Nigeria remains contentious with many believing that not much progress has been made in the country,especially with the turn of events where lives and property cannot be adequately guaranteed in the midst of economic downturn.

“Fired by the need to interrogate the impact level of democracy on development in Nigeria, the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) is organising its 33rd annual conference on Democracy and Development in Nigeria Fourth Republic.

“The essence of the conference is to explore further the relationship that exists between democracy and development, using the Nigerian experience. Through the papers that would be presented, path ways will emerge from the conference that will enable Nigeria to overcome her myriad of problems.

The keynote speaker at the conference is president, African Association of Political Science (AAPS), Professor Christopher Isike, while the lead paper will be presented by a national Commisssioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), Abuja, Professor Okechukwu Ibeanu.

The chairman of the opening ceremony is Professor Ayo Dunmoye, while the vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Sulyman Age AbdulKareem,
will be the chief host.
