A former Anambra State Governor and ex-Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige, has credited many of the achievements of former Governor Peter Obi to the groundwork he laid before leaving office in 2006.
In an interview, Ngige said that during his administration from 2003 to mid-2006, he implemented major reforms in education, healthcare, and public service, placing the State on what he described as “cruise control.”
“I had set everything in motion. I started the ball and passed it to him; he only had to put it into the net. The evaluation in education was carried out during my time in 2004, 2005, and the first half of 2006,” Ngige stated.
He stressed that his comments were not intended to spark political controversy or to undermine Obi, contrasting his position with that of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, whose remarks about Obi have often been viewed as critical.
“I’m not attacking Obi. He did well as Governor because he followed my footsteps and consolidated on my work. Most of those initiatives were not his original ideas,” Ngige added.
