Importance of women towards peace, security in society stressed

Participants at a one day sensitization training for media on women, peace and security initiatives have stressed the importance of equal participation and full involvement of women towards maintaining and promoting peace and security.
The training which was held at the NUJ Press Centre on Tuesday organized by the state implementation committee on women and peace also deliberated on the involvement of women in the decision making process at the level oftraditional councils making case for active participation of women in decision making. 
According to the communique issued at  the end of the training, it was resolved that the media should be mobilized to promote and enlighten women on their role in peace building, security and conflict resolution.
The communique jointly signed by Ishola Michael, Elizabeth Kah and Ramah Mutashi also commended Bauchi State Government for assenting to the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) law but called for the implementation of all policies and laws relating to gender issues
Journalists at the meeting then made a strong commitment to report on issues relating to peace, conflict resolution and security as they relate to women.
The sensitization training had the Commissioner of Information, Garba Dahiru in attendance stressing the need for Journalists to advocate for the respect of the rights of women particularly when it comes to decision making. 
The NUJ Chairman, Umar Sa’id and 25 working Journalists from across print and Electronic media in the state were the participants.

Presentations were made on the UNSCR 1325, overview of the Bauchi State Action Plan and activities of State Implementation Committee just as the  International Alert was commended for sensitizing the media on women participation in peace, security negotiation and conflict prevention.
