The National President of Nigeria Association of Auctioneers, Alhaji Aliyu Kiliya has urged fellow auctioneers and the general public, especially government departments and agencies not to be distracted by an impostor parading himself as national president of auctioneers.

Kiliya who spoke to newsmen in Abuja during the weekends alluded that, a fellow called Musa Kura, is going around media houses granting audiences, claiming to be the National President of Nigeria Association of Auctioneers. Setting the records straight he said, he is the authentic National President of Nigeria Association of Auctioneers. He said, he was democratically elected which both lower and appeal courts affirmed his position as the National President of Nigeria Association of Auctioneers.

“If Musa is knowledgeable he should know that he has a restraining orders from the lower court and the appeal court to stop parading himself as the president of the National Association of Auctioneers because he was never elected. It is a very big issues on his side because he is going contrary to what Court of Appeal has given a standing order.

He advised Musa to be law abiding and stop misinforming the public by parading himself as national president of NAA. He added that the gross disobedient to laws of NAA will henceforth not be tolerated by his administration.

Kiliya who has being the president of auctioneers in Nigeria since 2016, and active participant in auctioneering subsector spanning over four decades further substantiated, “we have court judgements from the lower court and the Court of Appeals in judgement delivered on May 8th 2020 by Hon. Justice A.A. Banjoko in Suit No. FCT/CV/481/16.

Kiliya further stated; “I was made to understand that he has been talking about the Nigeria Customs Service in the media. If he has an opinion as a citizen of Nigeria who likes to comment on issues, he has the right to exercise his fundamental human rights and not to pose as an impostor by claiming the position he is not. We are the authentic body that has rights to talk about what the Nigeria Customs Service is doing about auctions sales”.

He stated that Nigeria Association of Auctioneers has her own opinion about the Nigeria Customs Service on auction matters and it is premature for us to start discussing about that with the media at the time we are expecting audience and fruitful discussions with the Customs authorities on the best way forward on auction sales.

He said, as an agency of government, Nigeria Customs Service should hold Musa Kura responsible for tarnishing their imagine and reputation, whether Nigeria Customs Service is doing something rightly or wrongfully Musa has no right to talk on the capacity as the National President of Nigeria Association of Auctioneers.

“I want to advise the general public to ignore Musa Kura. We have all the evidence of what he has said in the media as exhibit. We shall tender to court at the right time. It is contrary to the position of both the lower Appeal courts’ judgements and standing orders.

“I also want to advise the media to uphold the ethics of their noble profession to check facts before granting anyone audience so as to bring out the truth.
