From all indications, the 2026 Revenue Generation Target for Tractor Hiring Unit (THU) may be unrealistic as only two Cabrio Tractors allocated to it were grossly inadequate for expected bumper harvest for next year’s planting season, investigation has revealed.

However, the unit was said to have received delivery of two Cabrio Tractors (50hp) implements and three units of global multipurpose mini tractors (6.5hp) implements which has already begun to make a positive impact as farmers got wind of it.

Also, further investigation revealed that the unit may need not fewer than 35 tractors comprising both units of Cabrio and Global Multipurpose Mini Tractors to hit the ground rolling for 2026 planting season.

Apart from establishment of the agency to provide agricultural services to farmers across the state at a subsidized rate to enhance the livelihoods and to generate revenue for the state, the unit was constituted and saddled with the responsibility of training engineers and tractor distributions in the 16 Local Government Areas and the two Development Areas in the state, a task that has been denied the agency from performing by Ministry of Agriculture And Food Security for over a decade.

However, contacted shortly after receiving the tractors from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the General Manager of the agency, Engr. Danladi Shatalis appreciated Governor Agbu Kefas’ Administration in revitalizing the agricultural sector, particularly the recent initiative on the allocation of tractors to enhance mechanized farming and boost food security in the state.

Shatalis also thanked the Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Prof. Nicholas Oliver for consideration and support to the unit particularly for the provision of two Cabrio and three Global Multipurpose Mini Tractors despite initial request of a larger number of units to meet the numerous demands of farmers in the State.

He equally extended appreciation to State House of Assembly Committee Members on Agriculture and Food Security headed by Hon. Abubakar Tanko Yusuf for show of support particularly during the recent Budget Defence.

It will be recalled that despite commendation by the House Committee on Agriculture and Food Security over the unit’s performance for hitting above 2025 target revenue generation, needed to be equipped more on number of tractors as to boost food production, hence, peasant farmers lack access to the machineries in the state except coming to Tractor Hiring Unit, a plead the General Manager had urged the State Government to consider urgently.
