INEC approves redeployment of heads of departments, electoral officers for better service delivery

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved redeploying Heads of Department (HOD) and Electoral Officers (EO) who have over stayed in their states of service.
Adamawa state Resident Electoral Commission, REC, Kaasim G Gaidan stated this recently while briefing some journalists at the state collation centre in Yola, Adamawa State against the forth coming general election.

He said, “last week, the commission granted an approval for the redeployment of Heads of Department and Electoral Officers who have stayed long in their states of posting, with a view to ensuring efficient and optimal performance.

The REC further noted that “the first set of the five officers comprising two HODs and EOs are leaving, and their replacements in place too. We cherish the contributions of these five officers in the execution of the commission’s mandate in the state. We expect a higher level of performance from those coming as it is always said ‘soldier come, soldier go but barrack remain.

According to him, “while wishing our colleagues well in their new stations, we request you to extend the same level of cooperating to their successors, especially the HOD VEPs replacement who interface directly with you for the commission”.

He noted that, following the Electoral Act 2022 assented by President Mohammadu Buhari on February 25th, 2022, INEC has released time table and schedules of activities for the 2023 general elections.

And that, first is publication of notice of Election on 28th February while the second is the collection of forms by political parties for issuances to their candidates, while the next activity will the conduct of the party primaries by political parties which will commence 4th April, 2022 and ends 3rd June, 2022.

Kaasim also pointed out that, it is pertinent the electoral Act 2022 now requires every registered political party to maintain a register of its members in both hard and soft copy and to make same available to the commission not later than 30th days before the day fixed for party primaries, congresses or conventions according to (section 77 (2) and (3).

According to him, preparations for the 2023 general elections are gathering momentum which has kick started in earnest since 28th June 2021 with the commencement of Continuous Voters Registration online, while 19th June 2021 INEC started ‘in person’ registration at the state office and INEC offices across the 21 LGAs. As at 7th March, 2022, the total of 111,762 were done through online registration, with 85, 395 completing the process.

The RE commissioner revealed that the milestones recorded was 2 985 reviews, 9512 information update, 14,434 transfers, 3427 PVC collections, 5147 card loss, 2032 defaces card for replacement, and 454 special registrations by people with disabilities.

Resident Electoral Commissioner was impressed saying, “I am happy to inform the good people of Adamawa state especially those located far away from our present CVR centres that the commission has approves effective from today decentralization of of the CVR Registration Areas/Wards level. The CVR will be suspended around June preparatory to processing the data in readiness for the election.
