The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winner of the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election.
According to the final results announced by the State Collation Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie (SAN), Soludo secured 422,664 votes out of 598,229 accredited voters, defeating his closest rival, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 99,445 votes.
Fourteen other candidates also contested the election. Soludo won convincingly in 19 out of the 21 local government areas of the State.
Professor Omoregie declared that Governor Soludo “having satisfied all constitutional requirements and scored the highest number of valid votes, is hereby returned elected as Governor of Anambra State.”
Charles Chukwuma Soludo (APGA): 422,664 votes, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu (APC): 99,445 votes, Paul Chukwuma (YPP): 37,753 votes, George Moghalu (LP): 10,576 votes and Obinna Nwosu (ADC): 8,208 votes
The State recorded 2,788,864 registered voters, with 598,229 accredited voters participating. INEC reported 584,054 valid votes, 11,244 rejected votes, and a total of 595,298 votes cast.
Although voting was disrupted in some polling units affecting 10,481 voters, the Returning Officer explained that the margin of lead between the top two candidates exceeded the number of affected votes, making the irregularities inconsequential to the final outcome.
Professor Omoregie certified the results, stating: “The election was duly contested, and a winner has emerged. Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, having fulfilled all legal requirements and secured the majority of lawful votes, is hereby declared elected.”
He also confirmed that Soludo met the constitutional threshold of securing at least two-thirds of votes in two-thirds of the state’s local government areas.
The National Chairman of APGA, Barrister Sylvester Ezeokenwa, hailed the victory as “a well-deserved and historic mandate,” expressing gratitude to the people of Anambra for their overwhelming support.
Chief Ezeokenwa said the outcome reflected public confidence in Soludo’s performance during his first term, especially in infrastructure renewal, economic reforms, and grassroots development.
“This victory is a resounding vote of confidence in Governor Soludo’s leadership. Ndi Anambra have reaffirmed their belief that he has delivered on his promises and deserves a second term to consolidate his achievements,” he stated.
While expressing slight disappointment that APGA did not win all 21 local government areas, Chief Ezeokenwa described the result as a call to greater service: “We are grateful but not complacent. This victory is not an end but a renewed call to serve. The next four years will redefine governance and development in our State.”
Soludo’s re-election reinforces APGA’s dominance in Anambra politics, demonstrating the party’s strong grassroots structure and continued regional influence.
Political observers commended the peaceful conduct of the election and the timely release of results, noting that INEC’s improved management of the process further strengthened confidence in Nigeria’s democratic system.
In his acceptance speech, the Governor Re-elect, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo praised the efficiency shown by the INEC and extended a hand of fellowship to his opponents.
He concluded by saying that his going back to work as the people of Anambra “ain’t seen nothing yet”.
