The Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) Prof. Saa’datu Hassan Liman has underscored innovative entrepreneurship and creativity as key drivers of sustainable models of global economic growth and development.
Prof. Liman, Vice Chancellor, NSUK stated this in her keynote address at the maiden International Conference of Innovation and Product Exhibition in Keffi.
The conference, which has a theme ‘Innovative Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development: Charting Global Economic Future’, was organised by the Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Faculty of Administration.
Prof. Liman said the theme of the conference “Innovative Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development: Charting Global Economic Future’ was apt, given the current challenges faced by the global economies.
She highlighted challenges confronting global economies, including climate change, food insecurity, declining natural resources, a shifting labour market, and rapid technological changes.
“To navigate these challenges effectively, the world needs to employ models of development that are not just economically viable but are sustainable models driven by creativity, resilience, and inclusive entrepreneurship,” she emphasised.
The Vice Chancellor said under her leadership, she laid out a bold and transformative vision to reposition the institution as a globally competitive, research-driven, innovative-led, and community-engaged university.
“We are aligning our curricula to the demands of the 21st century, modernizing infrastructure, deepening research and innovation culture, promoting partnership between academia, industry, government, and civil society.
“Let us reflect on how innovation and entrepreneurship are deeply interconnected with sustainability.
The future we chart today depends on the decisions and partnerships we forge now.
” I am confident that through our collective efforts, this conference will not just be a forum of talk but a catalyst for action, a launchpad for innovation, enterprise, and collaboration that shape a prosperous, equitable, and sustainable global economic future,” she said.
Pof. Abdullahi Zubairu, Dean, Faculty of Administration said innovation and sustainability were no longer optional but imperative, noting that entrepreneurs and administrators must embrace creativity to build solutions that drive economic growth and safeguard the well-being of future generations
Earlier speaking, Dr Monica Agu, Head, Department of Entrepreneurship Studies said the department was deeply committed to nurturing innovative minds and equipping students with the skills required to thrive in today’s dynamic business environment.
“Our students have done so well; this conference provides an opportunity to showcase what they have been doing for years, celebrate their achievements, encourage collaboration, and inspire the next generation of change-makers,” she said.
Dr Vincent Paul, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, while speaking with newsmen, said the objective of the conference was to build up lifetime sustainability through products made by students and participants.
He emphasised that entrepreneurship must transcend profit-making, embrace sustainability, inclusiveness, and innovation to address urgent societal needs.
“The conference is not just about building up a physical product alone, but even the paperwork to show that the things we do in reality are documented so that the next generation can lay their hands on it and build up from where this present generation stopped,” he stated.
The Conference had brought together keynote speakers from both national and international backgrounds, including Dr Martyna Wronka-Pospiech, University of Economics in Katowice, Poland, Suleiman Abubakar, Executive Director, Planning Imani Group, and Prof. Mohammed Mainoma, NSUK. (NAN)
