Insecurity: Nasarawa Governor Sule tasks NOA on peace-building sensitisation
By Our Reporter, Lafia
Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has called on the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to intensify sensitisation on peace building given the growing insecurity in parts of the country.
Sule made the call when he received the North Central Zonal Director of NOA, Dr Priscilla GondoAlour in Lafia.
The governor said that such peace sensitisation campaigns had become imperative, especially around inter-state border communities to de-escalate security situations.
He noted that comments from citizens that usually follow cases of security infractions, particularly in Nasarawa, Benue, and Plateau were capable of instigating a crisis.
Sule lauded the renewed drive of NOA led by its Director-General, Lanre Issa-Onilu, to reorient Nigerians towards national growth and development.
He also appreciated the Zonal Director for the work she did as the State Director of NOA in Nasarawa State before her elevation to the head of the zonal directorate of the agency.
Sule promised his administration would continue to support the activities of NOA towards achieving their constitutional mandate.
Earlier, Gondoalour told the governor that the essence of the visits was to present herself being the immediate past State Director of NOA and now the pioneer Zonal Director of the newly established North Central Zonal Directorate, to Sule, the Chairman of the North Central governors forum.
She commended Sule’s leadership and development strides in Nasarawa State, as well as his administration’s spirited efforts at stemming the tide of terrorist activities and kidnapping within Nasarawa and neighbouring States with the recent arrests of suspects by the State Police Command.
The zonal director expressed optimism that Nasarawa’s collaboration with neighbouring state governments and security agencies would reduce the insecurity challenges within the North Central Zone.
“Your Excellency, it is in full recognition of your sterling attributes that the North Central Zonal directorate has deemed it appropriate to accord you the honour as “the Quintessential Democrat and Promoter of the NOA mandate”, she said.
Gondoalour explained that the zonal directorate was covers activities in Kwara, Kogi, Benue, Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
She, therefore, appealed for the continued support of the state government to enable the zonal directorate Navigate harmony and collaboration within the State, interstate, or regionally to promote shared values through various platforms for all classes of citizens.
“We will also ensure that the purposes of Federal establishments located within the states are understood by the citizens to their benefit while liaising with non-governmental organisations, regional and pan-cultural regional bodies for shared development and prosperity.
“The increased sensitisation activities will enhance citizens’ participation in government, building maintenance culture and ownership-taking for the prosperity of our nation,” she said.
The Director was also at the Nasarawa State office of the Agency, where she admonished the staff to redouble their efforts to deliver on the mandate of NOA to remould the character of citizens through value orientation.
She urged them to always project the mandate of NOA by showing good examples wherever they find themselves.
The zonal director reminded the staff of President Bola Tinubu’s charge of “Building Nigerians to build Nigeria”.
