Integrated ministers tells CAN endorsement of governorship candidate in Taraba uncalled for
By Celestine Ihejirika, Jalingo
Dissatisfied by involvement of some Christian religious body in the ongoing 2023 general election, the integrated Minister’s association of Nigeria in Taraba has described the position of Christian association of Nigeria (CAN) endorsing the governorship candidate of the people’s democratic party (PDP) in Taraba State col.Agbu Kefas (RTD) as un-called-for.
President of the association Rev.Simon Silas Loto who started this during media briefing with Journalists in Jalingo said they are here to disassociate themselves from the statement by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) endorsing a particular candidate for match 11th Governorship election against others contenders.
According to him, the position by CAN was not only wrong but total embracement and unaccepted considering number of governorship candidates across party line, namely All Progressive Congress (APC) Labour Party (LP) Social Democratic Party (SDP), All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), etc.
Rev. Simon Loto said apart from CAN endorsing PDP and its candidate single handedly, that none of other religious groups or associations were consulted before coming with such a position.
“For us, we are here to make our stand known before the world that the Integrated Minister’s Association of Nigeria is not part of the decision for endorsing PDP and its candidate. Taraba is for all, and whoever God chooses as governor of Taraba State among other candidates remains accepted. it is dangerous, as Christian leaders we should lead by example .
