Interfaith Mediation Centre organizes community trust-building event for Christians/Muslims in Kaduna

Participants at a one day event on Community Initiatives to Promote Peace (CiPP) have reaffirmed their commitment to explore avenues that will further unite than divide them.

The event held at the weekend for Kachia Local Government Area, is organized by Interfaith Mediation Centre, Kaduna and her partners, with funding support by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Mercy Corps Nigeria.

Apex News Exclusive reports that the program had the theme “Community Trust Building” with the aim to bring both Christians and Muslim communities in the local government area together.

The participants who took turns to share their experiences on what they have done in the past to settle conflicts and or disputes through dialogue, noted that there can never be any development in community where followers of different religion are suspicious of one another.

While giving an overview on the program, the Youth Coordinator, Interfaith Mediation Centre Kaduna, Mr. Japheth Shekodoiza James said the meeting is also to acquaint participants on the community initiatives to promote peace and the environmental, mitigation and monitoring plan to foster an enabling environment for peace in Nigeria.

He explained that the Community Initiatives to promote Peace program is a five year program in five local government area of Kaduna State.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the program in Kachia local government area, Mr. Daniel Bitrus called on participants to learn to live and integrate with one another irrespective of their cultural, ethnic or religious differences because no one has ever suggested to God before he was given birth to which ethnicity or religion he should belong.

In their separate contributions, representatives of JNI and CAN in the Local Government, Imam Tasiu Ibrahim and Rev. David Jonathan both commended the organizers for championing the cause to further strengthen and build trust among believers of the two major faiths, even as they reminded the people to realized that no society can thrive in isolation.
