Worried about the scourge of corruption in the country, Interfaith Mediation Centre, Kaduna has organized a sensitization programme to raise awareness on the menace.

The sensitization programme which centred on ‘Promoting Accountability and Anti Corruption using Behavioral Change Approach,’ held in Kafanchan, drew participants from all walks of life.

Addressing the participants, the Administrator Kafanchan Municipal Authority, Mrs Phoebe Sukai Yayi identified poverty, unemployment and peer pressure, among others as key triggers to corruption.

She said the triggers must be dealt with if government would make a head way in the fight against corruption.

In their separate submissions, religious leaders present described corruption as destructive to any economy.

Pastor Gideon Mutum and Apostle Ben Amos of the Christian faith and Malam Hamza Ibrahim and Alhaji Isa Abbas of the Islamic faith, all observed that corruption has persisted in the country and required persistent efforts to fight it.

Rev. Mutum called for aggressive sensitization and enlightenment media campaigns by relevant government agencies on the dangers of corruption.

In his remarks, Alhaji Isah Abbas, representative of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, suggested that one way to rid the country of corruption was for people to resolve to always do the right thing.

According to Abbas, attitudinal change will go a long way in changing the narrative about fighting corruption in the country.

He added that the family, religious and educational institutions were character moulders who had a key role to play in promoting anti corruption.

They encouraged a change in behavior by perpetrators of the unwholesome behavior for the good of all.

The program was organized by Interfaith Mediation Centre, Kaduna and funded by the Catherine MacArthur Foundation.
