International Women’s Day: 25 CSOs hold peaceful rally in Bauchi, demand stoppage of bias against women

A coalition of 25 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) led by Attah Sisters Helping Hand (ASHH) Foundation and FOMWAN on Tuesday marched to the Government House, Bauchi in celebrating the 2022 International Women’s Day with the theme: ‘Stop the Bias’.
While addressing the Women, Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed commended the roles of women in nation building stressing that women will continue to play active role in nation building.
The First Lady however laments that women have been relegated to the background when it comes to decision making at all levels saying that the trend must stop.
The Governor’s wife also urged women to lobby their husbands for the implementation of women’s constitutional rights.
She said that seeking women’s constitutional rights should be not be too volatile and arrogant, adding that, “we need to be humble to the men and get what we want”.
The Governor’s wife also lamented that women are the cause of their problems by constituting most of their setbacks in the society saying, “We need to change our attitudes towards each other, let us shun, jealousy, hate, betrayal and differences among us”
The First Lady added that, “I enjoin you to create awareness and sensitize yourself against all those barriers and differences to forge ahead,” Mohammed said.
Speaking Ealier, Hajiya Aisha Kilishi, Amira, Federation of Women Muslim Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) Bauchi state said that they organised the rally to reiterate their commitment to advocate for gender equality.
She further said that women have an important role to play in the development of the country and the nation at large stressing,”Women’s role in socio economic, science, politics, science and technological advancement of any society would not be overemphasized.”
According to her, “Women empowerment remains the best tool for poverty eradication and human development” .
On her part, Mrs Comfort Attah, Executive Director, Attah Sisters Helping Hands Foundation (ASHHF) appealed to the National Assembly to reconsider the bills that deny women rights.
She urged women to remain committed and steadfast in the agenda for the inclusion of women in government in order to achieve the objectives of women emancipation.
