Iya Abubakar centre, Bauchi gets technology incubation centre soon – Director

The Professor Iya Abubakar Resource Centre, Bauchi is collaborating with the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to convert one of its building into a Technology Incubation Centre.
Already, the Bauchi State Government has agreed to release the building at the centre still under development to NEDC for the purpose.
The Director of the Centre, Jibrin Hussaini Kawure, made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with Apex News Exclusive in Bauchi.
He said the Commission has accepted a proposal on the incubation centre and the process is at advanced stage.
Besides, he said, the centre and the commission are looking at a partnership to train more youths and offer some professional courses where about 100 people will benefit.
The Director also pointed out that the centre had been in touch with Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy and NITDA among others on various collaborative efforts that will be of mutual benefit.
He also spoke about efforts to upgrade the centre to adhere to global best practices even on acting capacity to ensure he delivered by doing the right things.
According to him, upon his appointment, he noticed some structural problems in the way the centre was being run in terms of the business processes, movement of the files and other correspondences he made to streamlined them.
“…Even the way the trainings are being conducted, the curriculum, the training manuals, the training materials and also the calendar. So, I quickly embarked on restructuring on those areas to make sure we make it a standard centre that meets the global best practices,” Kawure explained.


He told Apex News Exclusive that the centre decided to copy models of centres that are being run successfully in the world and bring in best models into the centre.
He explained that a uniform cost material on each course was introduced and a model was adopted whereby all training materials will look the same in terms of their structure, divided into modules and lessons while instructors have presentation slides on their phone use to deliver on the lectures.
The Director also said he inherited three months backlog of staff salaries which were cleared and no staff who is being owed wages at the moment.
