Jigawa NUJ Council sets up veterans, welfare committees

The Nigeria Union of Journalists Jigawa State Council has constituted two key committees — the Veterans Committee and the Welfare Committee — as part of its efforts to deepen institutional support and professional solidarity among members of the union.
The establishment of these committees aimed at fostering better engagement with retired journalists and enhancing the welfare of practicing members in the state.
The Veterans Committee tasked with the responsibilities of maintaining a strong relationship with retired and elderly members of the union,documenting and preserving the contributions of veteran journalists in the state.
The commitee also has a mandate of organizing mentorship and knowledge-sharing initiatives between veterans and younger journalists in addition to advising the council on ways to honour and integrate veterans into union programs.
Members of the Veterans Committee include:
- Mati Ali as Chairman.
- Habibu Nuhu Kila as member
- Fahad Muhammad as member.
- Salmanu Adamu as member.
- Muhammad Hussaini Kwalam as Secretary.
The Welfare Committee is mandated to assess and address the welfare needs of members across the state, propose welfare support mechanisms for journalists facing health, financial, or emergency challenges.
They are also to coordinate with media organizations and stakeholders on the implementation of welfare policies and recommend sustainable welfare schemes for union members.
Members of the Welfare Committee are as follows
- Hajiya Zainab Shu’aibu Rabo – Chairperson.
- Aliyu Dangida as member.
- Muttaka Ahmad as member.
- Anas Yau Abdullahi as member.
- Auwal Muhammad Kazaure as Secretary.
Jigawa State Council has reposed confident in their capacity to deliver on the mandates.
