Jigawa strengthens collaboration with media to enhance transparency, accountability

Jigawa State has reaffirmed its dedication to fostering a strong partnership with the media to advance accountability, transparency and awareness on its policies and programs.

The State Deputy Governor, Engr. Aminu Usman, stated this when he received the Executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa state who paid him a courtesy visit.

He expressed gratitude for the long existing cordial relationship between Jigawa State Government and the NUJ.

Engr. Usman underscored the vital role of the media in promoting peace, stability, and the sustenance of democracy, appreciating journalists for their efforts in publicizing the activities of the Namadi administration.

Highlighting the achievements of the administration since inception, the Deputy Governor mentioned advancements in various sectors, including Agriculture, Education, and Infrastructure.

He also expressed interest in visiting the NUJ Secretariat to gain more insight into the operations of media professionals in the state.

Earlier, Comrade Ismail Ibrahim Dutse, the Chairman of the NUJ Jigawa State Council, introduced the new executive members of the Union.

He commended the Namadi administration for implementing policies that positively impact on citizens and reiterated NUJ’s commitment to safeguarding press freedom and supporting journalists.

“We are dedicated to upholding the Code of Ethics for Nigerian Journalists, as established by the Nigerian Press Organisation,” Dutse stated.

Dutse assured the Deputy Governor of NUJ, Jigawa State Council’s commitment to collaborating with the administration, to enhance the welfare of citizens.

He noted the poor condition of the Union’s Secretariat, which requires significant repairs and improvements, including office furniture.

Additionally, he requested support for the training and re-training of NUJ members, to ensure they possess the global best practices in modern journalism.

Comrade Ismail however, requested assistance from the State Government in acquiring a utility vehicle, as the NUJ remains the only industrial union in the state without a functional vehicle to support its operations.
