The 2023 governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Taraba State, Hon. Danladi Baido, has described June 12 Democracy Day as a symbol of the people’s will, resilience, and unwavering desire for justice and good governance.
In a statement Thursday by his Special Assistance on Media, Anthony Maliki, Hon. Baido noted that June 12 is not just a date on the calendar, but a tribute to courage, a reminder of sacrifice, and a call to action.
Hon. Baido, a two-term Member of the House of Representative, represented Karim Lamido/Lau/ Ardo-Kola Federal Constituency of Taraba State.
According to him, on June 12, 1993, Nigerians rose as one to vote in an election that remains a beacon of our democratic aspiration.
“Though that mandate was unjustly annulled, the spirit of June 12 could not be silenced. It lit a flame that still burns in our national soul,” he pointed out.
Hon. Baido stressed that “We remember and honor Chief M.K.O. Abiola, the symbol of that historic election, and all those—known and unknown—who paid the ultimate price in the struggle for democracy.”
