The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other partners, has commenced a seven-day assessment of communities affected by recent rain and windstorms across Southern Kaduna.

The exercise aims to gather accurate data to guide both emergency response and long-term interventions.

Speaking during the team’s visit to Jema’a LGA, the Zone 3 Coordinator of KADSEMA, Ayuka Shemang, said the effort is in response to flood predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, stressing the need for preparedness.

Also speaking, IOM Team Lead, Arhyel Mbaya, said the assessment is crucial to ensuring affected communities receive the necessary support.

The Vice Chairman of Jema’a LGA, Emmanuel Moses Utung, commended the initiative and assured the council’s support, noting that councillors had already begun gathering data in their wards.

The joint team includes representatives from Red Cross, the media, religious bodies, traditional leaders, and local officials. They are helping to verify damage reports and offer a coordinated, multi-sectoral response.

Findings from the exercise are expected to inform both immediate relief and long-term climate resilience strategies.
