The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Kaduna State chapter has strongly condemned the results of the October 19 local government council elections, describing them as a “blatant affront on democracy.”
In a press statement issued by the party’s chairman, Chief Edward Percy Masha, the party criticized the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) for prematurely announcing All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates as winners across the 23 local government councils and 255 wards, despite election materials not arriving at more than 90% of the polling units.
Chief Masha expressed gratitude to the party’s members and stakeholders for their resilience and vigilance throughout the election process, despite the challenges faced. “We condemn this brazen electoral theft and urge well-meaning citizens and democracy advocates worldwide to join us in demanding justice for Kaduna State’s people,” the statement read.
The PDP chairman also criticized the role of the state’s governor, Senator Uba Sani, calling his involvement in the election outcome “alarming but unsurprising.” Masha accused the governor, who once proclaimed himself a pro-democracy activist, of straying from democratic ideals since his tenure as a political adviser to former governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai.
In his statement, Chief Masha reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to holding the Kaduna State government accountable, pledging that the party would ensure the rule of law prevails. He called on party members and citizens to remain hopeful, stressing that under his leadership, democracy would ultimately triumph in Kaduna State. “The people will have the final say, God willing,” he added.
Additionally, Chief Masha expressed condolences to the family of a young man killed in Kawo by security agents during the election period, offering prayers for his soul and support for the grieving family.
As the controversy surrounding the election results grows, the PDP has vowed to pursue justice, calling on national and international attention to the unfolding electoral crisis in Kaduna State.
