Fire illuminates Karim Lamido town after youths burn houses on Thursday night

Karim Lamido headquarters Karim Lamido Local Government in Taraba State and environs were on fire as restive youths engaged in sporadic firing of guns and burning of houses.

Apex News Exclusive correspondent in Taraba State who just returned from the area reports that there were over fifty gunshots from the outskirts of Karim Lamido between one to four O’clock in the morning of Friday May 12th, 2023 which forced the people have sleepless night but fortunately there was no catualty.

But unfortunately on the evening of the same Friday the restive youths burnt down houses at Balasa, Gamji and Manaru villages and in Anguwan Ahmadu area of Karim Lamido town all belonging to the Wurkum tribe while shops at tsohon Tasha in Karim town were vandalized and wares valued at milions of naira were carted away.

Two people were said to have lost their lives in the crises while seven others are hopitalised and majority of the victims whose houses were burnt are now taking refuge with relations in Mutum Daya, Karim town and other villages not affected by the crises.

Investigative by Apex News Exclusive in Karim Lamido reveals that the Karimjos are kicking against the appointment of Yakubu Abubakar Haruna the eldest son of the late Chief of Wurkum Abubakar Haruna Kirim and the Garuruwan Muri to succeed his father by the Taraba State Governor Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku.

The investigation further shows that the Karimjos are not demanding for the Wurkum traditional stool but are clamouring for the Creation of a separate Chiefdom for them in Karim Lamido or in the alternative the Wurkum Traditional Council be returned to the Fulanis who are the original rulers of the Chiefdom the issue which they raised even before the demise of the late Chief of Wurkum Abubakar Haruna Kirim.

They vowed that unless their bidding is fulfilled the area will not know peace.

Expressing his anger on the fracas an indigene of Karim Lamido Lamido Local Government and former Commissioner Boundary in Taraba State, Dr. Philimon Azara Saredau said “Stop this nonsense disturbance in Karim Lamido Local Government we need one another do not allow enemies of progress to divide us, peace we want we need peace that’s our portion”.
When contacted, the Police Public Relation’s Officer PPRO Taraba State Command Usman Abdullahi said the Command has not received any report on the matter.
