KATDICT empowers 100 grassroots women with digital skills training, smartphones

The Katsina State Directorate of Information and Communications Technology (KATDICT) has launched a Digital Skills Training & Empowerment Programme, providing 100 women with digital literacy training and brand-new smartphones.

Director General Naufal Ahmad flagged off the groundbreaking initiative, developed in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), to bridge the digital divide and ensure no woman remains excluded from Katsina State’s digital transformation journey.

“Access is the first step to inclusion. These devices are more than tools—they’re passports to opportunity, knowledge, and economic participation,” DG Naufal emphasized during the launch.

The programme equips women from across Katsina State with essential digital competencies, ranging from smartphone literacy to utilizing online tools for business development, education, and daily life management. Each participant receives a smartphone, representing both a practical resource and symbolic commitment to digital inclusion.

KATDICT Director General stated that the initiative targets historically underserved populations, particularly women in rural communities, aligning with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s vision of grassroots empowerment and inclusive development.

“This empowerment programme reinforces KATDICT’s broader mission to establish Katsina as a knowledge-based economy where every citizen participates in the digital revolution. The initiative demonstrates the state government’s unwavering commitment to transforming lives through technology and skills development,” he said.

Civil servants, community leaders, programme participants, and members of the digital innovation ecosystem attended the launch.

The launch ceremony concluded with DG Naufal leading special prayers for Governor Radda’s quick recovery following his recent accident. Participants lifted their voices in prayer for the Governor’s continued strength and protection.

Participants also expressed gratitude to Governor Radda transformational leadership and unwavering commitment to building a stronger, smarter, and more inclusive Katsina State.
