Katsina completes tractor, implement distribution to all LGs ahead of 2025 rainy season

All 34 local government areas have receive tractors and full set of implements from Katsina Agricultural Mechanisation Programme State-wide rollout to boost land preparation and strengthen food production.

The Katsina State Government has successfully completed the distribution of tractors and essential farming implements to all Local Government Areas (LGAs) under its Agricultural Mechanisation Programme.

The intervention is aimed at preparing farmers for the 2025 rainy season and transforming agricultural productivity across the state.

The programme is being coordinated by the Agricultural Development Programmes Unit (ADPU) in the Governor’s Office, as part of the Radda administration’s strategic focus on modernising the state’s agricultural sector.

Speaking on the status of the distribution, the ADPU Coordinator, Dr.Suleiman Umar, confirmed that all 34 LGAs have now received a complete package of machinery and implements, including both the initial and supplementary consignments.

According to him, each LGA has received the following:

  • 2 units of Lovol 504 Tractors
  • 2 Disc Harrows
  • 2 Ridgers
  • 1 Trailer
  • 10 Multicrop Planters

Dr. Umar noted that the additional set of Disc Harrows and Ridgers was recently delivered to ensure that farmers are better equipped to carry out efficient land preparation at scale, especially in rural farming communities.

All machinery and implements were dispatched from the Katsina State Agricultural Mechanisation Centre, a landmark project commissioned last month by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his official visit to the state. The Centre stands as a cornerstone of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda “Building Your Future” agenda and the state’s renewed commitment to mechanised agriculture.

During the commissioning, Governor Radda announced plans to establish sub-centres of the Mechanisation Centre across all 34 LGAs, to decentralize access to machinery and bring mechanised farming closer to grassroots farmers.

“This intervention is not just about equipment it’s about building a more productive and resilient agricultural system in Katsina. We are empowering our farmers with the tools they need to thrive,” Dr. Umar emphasized.

The comprehensive rollout is expected to significantly ease land preparation, reduce dependence on manual labour, and boost crop yields across the state during the 2025 farming season.
