Katsina Customs Command Comptroller, Umar commended for visiting former President Buhari in Daura

The recent visit of the Customs Area Controller of Katsina Command, Comptroller Mohammed Umar to immediate past President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari in his Daura residence, has been described as in the right direction considering the importance of such visits to create synergy in performance. 

Recall that Muhammadu Buhari had during the visit, lauded the efforts of the Command Comptroller for vigorously promoting community inclusion in his preventive and anti-smuggling strategy since assuming duties at the Command.

Immediate past Speaker of Northern Youths Assembly of Nigeria, Comrade Ukkasha Hamza Rahama while speaking to Journalists in Bauchi on Saturday, opined that important personalities like the former President needed to be consulted regularly in the fight against transborder smuggling. 

He stressed that considering the fact that Katsina State has several borders with Niger Republic, consultations by the Customs Command was necessary in order to fashion out how to operate without causing friction between the two countries. 

Ukkasha Hamza Rahama commended Muhammad Umar for taking the steps of visiting Muhammadu Buhari stressing that it will serve as a morale booster for his operations while still in charge of the Command. 

During the visit, the former President 

praised the inter agency cooperation and collaboration, which according to him, has increased the prospects of security agencies defeating criminal elements particularly at the borders.

Muhammadu Buhari also said security is everyone’s concern, advising the people to always give credible and reliable information to security agencies in the interest of the wellbeing of country and its citizens. 

Earlier, Comptroller Muhammad Umar said that he was at the former President’s residence as a mark of respect as well as to intimate him about recent customs activities under his watch. 

He added that he visited him as part of his tour of various Katsina communities  in the drive to enlist greater compliance through community support as well as to enjoy the wise fatherly counsel from the Elder statesman.

The Customs Comptroller further told the former President that since assumption of office in the state, the Nigeria Customs Service has been enjoying cordial relationship with traditional rulers, community leaders and members of the business community in the state. 

He added that the message of compliance with the law is equally applicable to all Nigerians including law enforcement officers who must live and lead by example.

While thanking the former President for the audience and encouragement, Muhammad Umar assured that the NCS in the Command will always strive to tap from his wealth of experience as a gentleman Officer and a national leader.

The Area Controller assured the former President that there is now a 24 hours Customs anti – smuggling operations in the state, particularly in border areas. 

He stressed that this has become more effective with the full support of sister security agencies like the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Department of State Service, Nigeria Immigration Service and other.
