The Katsina State Government House solar power station project is near completion.
The project is to create a solar power station that will generate one megawatt power.
The Chairman of the Rural and Urban Electricity Board, Alhaji Abubakar Matazu, disclosed this to journalists in Katsina, when he was inspecting the project.
According to the head of the commission, it is a trial project that Katsina state has planned to reduce the expenditure of huge amounts of money in paying KEDCO electricity company and buying gas to run the generator.
He added that the reason why the Katsina state government thought of doing this work is to reduce the way it spends millions of naira to pay for electricity, which he said, that the amount of quantity of light that was consumed last month alone was about N200 million in the government house.
Alhaji Matazu added that, it is important to establish this station that will provide electricity with a power of One Mega Watt in the government house and some hospitals in Katsina state in order to reduce the problem of electricity failure and the amount of money spent on it, in buying gas and electricity.
“If this work is completed, it will give the government house all the power needed. A good plan has been made so that there will be enough power supply 24 hours,” he said.
He also explained that the reason for expanding this work to other hospitals is that some patients are in a bad state due to the lack of electricity, which may result to heat and mosquito bites which can cause other diseases.
The head of the commission also added that preparations are now underway to start the work of providing 300 kg solar power at the Katsina General Hospital to improve the condition of the hospital and the poor health.
Also, Matazu said that even the street lights of Katsina have been given the task of converting them to use solar system, which he said could attract investors from other countries.
Also, shedding more light on how the project will be, Engineer Abdullahi Bature, who is in charge of the installation of the power supply equipment, said that it is a project that will help greatly in reducing the global warming that the world is facing.
Engr. Bature aslo stated that they will complete this major project that will cost about N2 billion in three to four months, and that it is a pilot project that is expected to develop other projects in the future.
He reiterated that all the materials needed for the completion of the project have already arrived, the only thing left is that the work has already started, therefore they hope that the people of Katsina state will see a change in this area soon.
