Kawu Youth Rehabilitation, Orphanage Centre sponsors 12 students to varsities in Bauchi, Malaysia

The Chairman and proprietor of Malam Kawu Youth Rehabilitation and Orphanage Centre, (MKYROC) Bauchi, said eleven of its students have been enrolled in various tertiary institutions in the state, while one is a doctoral student in Malaysia.

The Centre’s boss Abdullahi Mohammed Tahir, said six of the students are at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, five at Bauchi State University, Gadau and two at Malikiya College of Medical Sciences, Bauchi.

While briefing newsmen on the activities of the centre in Bauchi, the proprietor expressed concern over the increasing rate of tuition fees at the tertiary institutions.

He said even the meagre chargeable tuition fees by the centre always leave parents and guardians in default.

Tahir, further disclosed that the centre is now preparing a memo for presentation to the Bauchi state government seeking possible intervention and collaboration towards advancing the course of the centre which has about 300 youths and pupils, 197 of whom under rehabilitation, while the rest ‘Almajirai’ seeking purely knowledge, as well as 27 workforce.

Tahir similarly disclosed that the centre spends over N400, 000 monthly on salaries of staff that included security and cooks, revealing that of the 17 years of its establishment, the centre registered 1, 443 mostly for rehabilitation influenced by drugs and substance abuse, most of whom successfully restored to good condition.

He explained that of all the 19 Northern states, only Kwara, Kogi, Kebbi and Benue that don’t have either a pupil (s) or youth at the centre.

Malam Tahir recalled some MDAs officials or their sons, especially at federal level including some security operatives were satisfactorily reformed at the centre and we’re now at their various fields of human endeavours, with some even promoted to the next works level.

Tahir further explained that some guardians or parents who have already patronized the centre or have their wards or children from Gombe state and Niger Republic have indicated interests for the establishment of similar centres in their respective domains, as they solicited the cooperation of Malam Kawu towards that effect.

The proprietor also distributed ove one hundred mosquito nets to the students, saying the mosquito nets was donated to the center by father of one of the students from Niger Republic.
