The Kogi East Elders Council (KEEC), led by Professor Godwin Ogbadu, has commended President Bola Tinubu for the appointment of Major General Waidi Shaibu as the Chief of Army Staff.
The Elders Council believe strongly that even though the appointee is eminently qualified for this important military position, credit must be given to Mr. President for his courage and foresight in appointing someone from the North Central Zone of Nigeria in view of the increasing security challenges facing the area.
The Council noted with great appreciation Mr. President’s prompt response towards the escalating armed bandits and violent attacks within the the North Central Zone, stressing that the constant changes of military leadership has demonstrated his high sensitivity towards the feelings and aspirations of most people across the country.
In a statement jointly signed by Prof. Godwin Ogbadu, Chairman and Chief Rekiya Momoh-Abaji, Secretary-General, the KEEC expressed immense joy and pride over General Shaibu’s elevation, describing it as a well-deserved recognition of his exemplary service and commitment to the nation.
According to the Elders Council, “we have closely followed your career progression and are impressed by your hard work and dedication to duty, which have inspired many people in Kogi East, Kogi State, and across Nigeria. Given your outstanding track record, we are confident that you will perform excellently in this new role.”
The Council lauded General Shaibu’s appointment as a “strategic decision” and “a round peg in a round hole,” affirming its belief in his capacity to lead effectively. It further assured him of their prayers and support, adding, “Please be assured of our readiness to offer our presence and moral support whenever needed.”
General Shaibu’s appointment has continued to attract commendations from across the country, with many Nigerians expressing optimism that he will lead the Nigerian Army to greater success especially in the fight against armed bandits and criminal militant groups terrorizing innocent and peace loving Nigerians.
