The Kutep Peace Movement (KPM) a socio-cultural organization in Takum, Taraba State has kicked against the rotation of the first Class Chief, the Ukweh Takum.
It also kicked against changing the nomenclature of the traditional title from Ukweh to Chief of Takum.
In press briefing in Takum, the KPM said although the stool of Ukweh Takum has been vacant for decades, the renewed commitment by Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas to install the First Class Traditional ruler of Takum through rotational arrangement among the Kuteb, Chamba and Kpanzon people and changing the name of the First Class stool from “Ukwe Takum” to “Chief of Takum” has raised a lot of dust.
It also stressed that the developments are threats to the peaceful co-existence of the people in the affected areas and beyond and a bad omen for Taraba State that is still struggling to catch up with other states in terms of development.
The KPM noted that crises is never the best option to settling disputes that is why the indigenous Kuteb in Takum Local Government came under a new umbrella the Kuteb Peace Movement to declare their readiness to engage in fresh dialogue with the Government and stakeholders in Taraba State over the Takum Chieftaincy issue.
The Movement said it has consulted with the elders and stakeholders who are peacefully living in Takum and have commenced a process to review its position with the proposal of the Government under specific conditions.
