Late Maikanti Baru: 15 things to know about life of former NNPC GMD

A former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr Maikanti Baru died Friday May 29, 2020 from an undisclosed ailment. Apex News Exclusive brings you high points of the life of the astute engineer.

1. Born on July 7, 1959 in Misau, Bauchi State

2. Was18th Group Managing Director of NNPC

3. He was NNPC boss from July 4, 2016 to July 7, 2019

4. Baru was Group General Manager (GGM) of National Petroleum Investment Management Services a subsidiary of NNPC

5. He was fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers

6. Baru was also fellow of Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers

7. He worked for 3 years at the Jos Steel Rolling Company and left in 1991

8. He joined the NNPC in 1991 Engineering Manager

9. From 1999 to 2004, Baru was Chief Technical Negotiator, West African Pipeline Project

10.  He attended Federal Government College, Jos finishing in 1978

11. Baru obtained his Bachelor of engineering degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1982

12. He earned a doctorate in Computer Aided Engineering from University of Sussex, United Kingdom

13. Baru was Managing Director
Carlson Services (UK) Limited

14. He was a crude oil marketer

15. Baru’s son,  Mohammed, an Architecture student at the American University, Sharjah, United Arab Emirate, died on Thursday, May 18, 2017 while on the school’s hiking exercise
