In Bauchi State, the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) adopted consensus for its local government congresses held on Saturday in all the 20 LGAs of the state.
Chairman of the local governments congress committee sent to Bauchi State from the national headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jibrin Samuel advised the party members to adopt the consensus in choosing the new leaders at local governments levels.
He gave the advice on Saturday while addressing returning officers at the state party secretariat before the commencement of the exercise.
According to him, the party opted for consensus in order to reduce tension, prevent intruders from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from hijacking and sabotaging the exercise ‘as there is no updated list of registered members of the party at present’.
The committee chairman opined that the choice of consensus method is legit adding that politics is about consensus building applauding the state for the peaceful conduct of last wards congresses,
Jibrin Samuel also said that if the members will maintain the tempo with which the party is moving, the party will definitely triumph in the 2023 General elections by winning back the state.
He however stated that, in places agreement for consensus was not reached, they could go for election as the party does not have plans to impose some people as leaders.
He promised not to allow some individuals within the party to shortchange others but that fairness would be done to all candidates so that come 2023 no aggrieved member will indulge in anti party activities.
