The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ebonyi state chapter, has begged the state Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) to reduced the fee for purchase of nomination forms for the proposed 2022 council elections in the state.
PDP is the only opposition party that has indicated interest to feature in the council polls.
The elections would take place in the existing 171 wards and 13 local government areas in the state and it expected to held next Saturday.
The state chairman of the party, Hon.Toochukwu Okorie made the appeal on Sunday during the party primaries where it elected candidates for the council polls.
Okorie described the one million naira purchasing fee placed on chairmanship position as outrageous for the candidates.
His Words:”One million naira for Local Government Chairmanship candidate and two hundred thousand naira for the ward councilllorship candidates are outrageous.
“So I’m of the view that EBSIEC should review that and today we had primary elections across the wards and local government areas, for the forthcoming council elections, the EBSIEC organised elections.
“And so far so good, it has ended and we are collating results,” he explained.
The state chairman however explained that his party would raise alarm against EBSIEC if there are any omission capable of jeopardizing the exercise.
