Despite the increasing human casualties from the coronavirus pandemic, some people appear to give deaf ear to government directives on total lockdown.
Our correspondent reports that some parts of the commercial city of Onitsha are now beginning to witness large
gatherings of people.
At Nkpor Junction and other parts of the metropolis, it was observed that people go about their normal businesses.
Commercial vehicles were seen conveying passengers to their various destinations, just as stalls and shops at the Junction remained open including those selling cloths and electronics.
The market along Onitsha–Enugu Expressway popularly called Army Gate market, well known for foodstuff, was open on Monday as against government directives that sales will only be on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The story was the same at MCC axis of Onitsha metropolis as different
levels of businesses were in progress in the early hours of Monday.
Even beggars that disappeared last week have re- appeared in their numbers, at the Pedestrian Bridge along MCC axis.
Upper Iweka area was not left out as lots of vehicles including the heavy duty trucks plied the expressway with ease.
Those that spoke to our correspondent, however bemoaned the hard times
induced by the stay at home directive and appealed for relief, so as to enable people attend to most pressing needs.
