Leaders of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in southern Kaduna have vowed to work closely with security agencies to tackle the rising wave of insecurity in the region.
Speaking at a meeting in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area, the leaders called on community members to report suspicious activities and ensure peaceful co-existence between Fulanis and other communities
Alhaji Mato Yahaya, Southern Kaduna Zonal Chairman of MACBAN, said it had become necessary for the group to find solutions to the security challenges affecting their communities.
“We cannot stand idly by and allow insecurity to take root in our communities. I urge everyone to speak frankly and suggest practical ways of resolving the security problems we face,” Yahaya said.
He further called on participants to engage in activities that foster peaceful co-existence between Fulanis and other communities in the region.
In his remarks, the Kaduna State MACBAN Chairman, Alhaji Abdulhamid Albarka, said the meeting was convened to gather inputs from local Fulani leaders and relay them to the security agencies.
Albarka emphasised the need for Fulani leaders to identify and expose criminal elements within their communities to prevent suspicion of collusion. “If we don’t fish them out, they will tarnish our reputation, and we cannot allow that,” he stated.
Alhaji Haruna Usman, National Organising Secretary of MACBAN, who hails from the zone, assured that the group remained committed to maintaining the relative peace in the area. He called on community leaders to report any suspicious persons or activities to the appropriate authorities.
Tugga also urged the media to provide factual and balanced coverage of the security situation in Southern Kaduna.
Other speakers at the meeting highlighted the importance of herders seeking permission from farmers before grazing on harvested farmlands, to avoid conflicts.
The meeting brought together Fulani leaders from all eight local government areas that make up Southern Kaduna.
