Madakiya United FC from Zangon Kataf Local Government played 1-1 draw with Shettima Rainbow FC from Jema’a Local government Area in the opening ceremony of the 4th Edition of the Peace Soccer Tournament in Madakiya, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Commissioner Kafanchan Municipal Authority, Phoebe Sukai Yayi, said it is time for the Nigerian citizens to be identified as a people of development and civilization, join hands and work together in moving the country forward, as the world is also moving fast.
Mrs Yayi challenged the individuals to see how they can contribute their own quota in bringing development and assisting the downtrodden among themselves.
She also implored the youth and the participating teams to use the competition to engender peace and unity among the diverse ethno-religious groups in the area.
Also speaking, the sponsor of the tournament, Mr. Yusuf Duniya said the competition is aimed at promoting peace and unity among the youth in southern part of the state, and also give them the opportunity to showcase their talents.
He said they have started the competition in 2017 when farmers/herders crisis heightens in southern part of the state to encouraged peace building within the communities.
He said youth engagement in activities like sport can take them far away from negative thinking.
“If you have a talent and didn’t showcase it you may die with it. So one of the essence of this competition is to give youth the opportunity to showcase their talents.
20 teams from across the Zone are participating in the tournament which is holding at Madakiya Playing Ground in Zangon Kataf LGA.
