Maifata assumes as new Agwai l Polytechnic rector, vows not to abuse trust

The Rector, Isa Mustapha Agwai l Polytechnic (IMAP), Lafia, Dr. Nurudeen Muazu Maifata has expressed deep appreciation to the Visitor of the Polytechnic and Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, maintaining that all must come as one to forgive, forget and work together for the betterment of the institution.

Dr. Maifata was announced as the fourth substantive Rector of the Polytechnic in a statement through the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Labaran Magaji in Lafia.

During an official handover ceremony, Dr. Maifata said he would run a leadership anchored on inclusiveness, 21st-century administration driven by commitment, technology and dedication to duty.

He lauded the Polytechnic community for their unwavering cooperation, assuring them of an enabling environment that provides opportunities for all to thrive.

He urged the staff to do away with bickerings and embrace development, insisting that he had come to sustain the transformational policies designed in his blueprint.

Dr. Maifata, an Associate Professor, saluted the resilience of the Prof. Muhammad Sanusi Liman-led Governing Council for standing by what was right, restating his commitment to working on a new slate with accountability, absence of favoritism and entrenchment of value and competence that solve the institution’s challenges.

Earlier, the immediate past Acting Rector, Dr. Dauda Ibrahim congratulated his substantive Rector on his appointment, eulogizing the remarkable achievements of the Rector during his earlier sojourn as an Acting Rector.

Dr. Ibrahim implored his successor to carry everyone along, noting that whatever he had achieved in his 90-day leadership was built on the trajectory set by Dr. Maifata.

In a goodwill message, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Dr. Ilah Obadiah, Dean of the School of Communication Technology, Florence Alu, Director of Linkages and Advancement, Dr. Abubakar Okuwa, Head of Department, Architectural Technology, ESV. Ayeni Ekundayo, pledged to work hand-in-gloves with the new helmsman to move the institution forward.

Our correspondent also reports that before his appointment as substantive Rector, Dr. Maifata was the institution’s Polytechnic Librarian.

Our correspondent further reports that the handover ceremony was attended by members of the Polytechnic community and beyond, including the Polytechnic Registrar, Zamani Habu Ibrahim, Director of Information, Public Relations and Protocol, Mukhtar Wakeel and Director-General of the Nasarawa State Bureau of Rural Development, Engr. Muhammed Sidi Sani and a host of distinguished individuals.
