Management council of the Bauchi State College of Agriculture has been commended for taking precautionary measures to protect its students and others within the community.
The commendation was made by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) after consultation with both the security agents, Students union Government and other relevant stakeholders on the measures taken by the institution to avert what would have led to lost of lives during the recent protest by the students.
The Association spoke through its National Director, Administration and Strategy, Prince Mohammed Sani Hassan during a press briefing in Bauchi on Tuesday.
He observed that The decision of the Management to appeal the earlier judgement over the lingering dispute of the institution’s land by some individuals following a judgement delivered by the state high Court in Bauchi was a welcome development which was the right thing to do.
The NANS Director said that, “We commend the management for taking the prompt legal action to appeal the earlier judgement by the state high Court in Bauchi state and urge them to ensure they pursue the legal action at the court of appeal to a logical conclusion in order to win the battle once and for all”.
Sani Mohammed added that, “We equally called on the state Government to as a matter of urgency, take proactive measures by constituting a committee to look into this issue and give all necessary support and legal backing to the institution to reclaim the land that is been claimed by people after it was set aside by the Management for Students Practicals”.
“It is quite very unfortunate that an Agricultural Institution that requires more lands to carry out Practicals and produce food commodities for her immediate community is been encroached by individuals”, he lamented.
He declared that, “We cannot fold our arms as leaders of Students to allow selfish interest and self minded persons to take over the land belonging to an Institution of this magnitude in Bauchi State or elsewhere within the jurisdiction of this very office” .
The NANS Director added that, “We want to call on the School Management with the support of the Bauchi State Government to urgently secure the Judgement delivered in their favour to deal with this land encroachers. All those who have grabbed the land is for their selfish interest at the detriment of the Students of this institution and those who may be willing to apply in the future’.
“We see no reason why Government and the Management should be watching while some Selfish minded groups are grabbing the land belonging to the school taking advantage of the institution’s undeveloped land. The recent development in the school has reawaken the Management to take all measures to end this long dispute through the court of competent jurisdiction”, He said.
