Following the closure of the Eke Awka Market, Awka, by Anambra State Government for non compliance to COVID-19 safety measures, markets at Onitsha metropolis have strengthened their COVID 19 precautionary measures.
Our correspondent reports that all markets visited at Onitsha are complying
with guidelines as stipulated.
Markets visited include some sections of the Bridge Head Market and New Auto Spare Parts Market Nkpor.
On arrival at the Bridge Head Market Onitsha, our correspondent spotted the
Bridge Head COVID-19 Task Force led by the President General, Bridge Head Market Traders Association, Mr. Sunday Obinze on a routine check around various sections of the market to ensure compliance by traders and customers.
Speaking to our correspondent, Mr. Obinze, who commended the state government for the orientation given to the COVID-19 Task Force Team on how to enforce the safety measures, described it as traders friendly.
He pointed out that traders and customers are adhering strictly to state government’s directives.
Reacting to the shutdown of Eke Awka market, Mr. Obinze called for stringent measures to be taken against markets that do not comply, stressing that the laid down directive is for the safety of all.
Some stakeholders, who added their voices including Mr. Anthony Ezioba and Sir Sylvester Aghanaonu noted that the market is following every directive from the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control.
Also at the New Auto Spare Parts Market Nkpor, the COVID-19 Taskforce was spotted at their duty post enforcing compliance.
The Chairman, Chief Elycious Umeozokwere said they were able to achieve compliance in the market through various measures put in place.
He advised the public to take COVID-19 seriously and adhere strictly to every safety measures while commending Governor Willie Obiano for his tireless efforts in protecting the lives of the citizenry.
Our correspondent also observed that at every entry, exit, line and shop at the
markets visited, buckets of running water, soap and hand sanitizers were placed for use.
