Meet General Brown Jr, first African-American to lead branch of United States Armed Forces

June 9, 2020 will go down in the history of the United States. Just as George Floyd was being buried in Houston, Texas, for white police brutality that led to his death, the country’s Senate confirmed General Charles Quinton Brown Jr. as the first African-American to head a branch of a US military with an overwhelming vote of 98-0. He is now the Chief of Staff of the U.S Air Force. Apex News Exclusive presents briefs in the life of General Brown Jr.

1. General Brown was born in 1962

2. He served as commander of Pacific Air Forces which is air component commander for US Indo-Pacific Command

3. He was Executive Director of the Pacific Air Combat Operations Staff

4. Brown served as the Deputy Commander of  United States Central Command (CENTCOM) at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida

5.  As the air component commander at CENTCOM, Brown was responsible for developing contingency plans and conducting air operations in a 20-nation area of responsibility covering Central and Southwest Asia

6. He took over Pacific Air Forces from acting commander Jerry Martínez on July 26, 2018

7. General Brown’s career began in 1985, when he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant

8. He was a distinguished graduate of the Air Force Reserve Officers Corps with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas

9. He earned a Master’s degree in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Dayton, Florida in 1994

10. In 2012, Brown was made a “Distinguished Graduate” of Texas Tech University by its Alumni Association

11. Brown served in a variety of positions at the Squadron and wing level, including an assignment to the United States Air Force Weapons School. He served as F-16 instructor

12. Brown was aide-de-camp to the Chief of Staff to the Air Force

13. He served as a national defense fellow at the Institute for Defense

14. Brown served as Director, Operations, Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe—Air Forces Africa at Ramstein Air Base in Germany

15. He is a Command Pilot with over 2,900 flying hours, including 130 combat hours

16. President Trump on March 2, 2020 announced he would nominate Brown to become the next US Air Force boss to succeed retiring David L. Goldfein

17. In 1997 he was Distinguished graduate at Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell AFB, Alabama

18. In 2004 Brown was National Defense Fellow of the Institute for Defense Analyses, Alexandria, Varginia

19. He attended the Air Force Senior Leadership Course, Center for Creative Leadership, Greensboro, N.C.in 2000

20. Brown was also at Maxwell AFB, Alabama in 2012 for the Joint Force Air Component Commander Course

21. Aircraft Brown has flown include:  F-16A/B/C/D, AC-130U, AH-64, AT-38, B-1B, B-2A, B-52H, C-130J, E-8C, HH-60G, KC-135, MV-22, T-37 and T-38
