Mu’azu, the fighter

When he left his job at the Monday Market Maiduguri branch of First Bank in May 2016 and joined the vigilante movement to fight the Boko Haram insurgency, many people thought he has gone nuts in the head.
Mu’azu Alhaji Misiya, a graduate of Mathematics and an indigene of Bama, Borno state became a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (C-JTF) which involved young volunteers collaborating with the military to prosecute the anti-terrorism campaign in Borno State.
He was part of the joint effort which liberated many towns and villages which included Gwoza, Bama, Banki, Fulka, Yamtake and many others. He partook in many operations led by the late Colonel Abu Ali in which he proved his commitment, valor, fighting spirit and gallantry.
Mu’azu Misiya’s patriotism and gallantry stood out because he elected to, not just abandoned his white collar job, but decided to take up arms, as a civilian volunteer, to fight so that others could sleep in peace. He did this since 2006 at a time many people were leaving jobs in order to get out of town to save their skins.
Here is hoping that both the federal and state governments would consider avenues to highlight this young man’s contributions by honoring him in order to encourage others to see the wisdom in sacrificing ones comfort to build a nation at peace with itself.
