A two weeks warning strike may be on the way if the Federal Government of Nigeria reneged in implementing the agreement reached between it and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU.
The union rising from a recent meeting disclosed that the Federal Government was not been serious in the implementation of MoUs and MoAs, to meeting the agitation of it members across Nigeria universities.
The warning strike was contained in a letter jointly signed by Prince Peter Adeyemi, Secretary-General of NASU and Comrade Mohammed H.Ibrahim, National President SSANU on Wednesday and made available to newsmen on Thursday.
The letter, however reads in parts: “The jointed Action Committees (JAC) at its meeting held on 16 March 2022, appraised recent development on the content of it Memorandum of Understanding and Memorandum of Action, reached with the Federal Government on 20th of October 2020 and 25th February 2021 respectively and concluded that the federal government has not been sincere with the implementation of the agreement.
“Relating to our letter dated 1st March 2022,in respect of same in which nothing has come out of it despite the fact that JAC has given a 21-day ultimatum to federal government in respect of our members greviences and agitations on the non implementations of the agreement.
“The meeting was shocked that after giving a 2 weeks ultimatum nothing tangible has come out of it and government has not even acknowledge the letter with a response as expected.”
It noted that the Federal Government was not even bothered with the detestable condition of members of the none teaching staff of Nigerian universities.
The letter continuous that “in view of the Joint Action Committee meeting with SSANU and NASU, federal government is given uptill Sunday 27 March, 2022 to do the needful, in respect to their members agitation as we will be left with no other options than to direct out members in universities and inter university centers in Nigeria to proceed on a two weeks warning strike.”
