Murtala Ajaka
By Danusa Ocholi
Ahead of November 11, Kogi State Governorship election, a candidate s name is on the lips of many political analysts and stakeholders. He is Murtala Yakubu Ajaka the candidate of the Social Democratic Party(SDP).
The party may appear not too formidable nationally today, but not so in Kogi, the state that prides itself as the Confluence State.
With the outgoing governor Yahaya Bello failing the state abysmally in virtually all spheres, especially in turning state workers into beggars with massive corruption and abuse of office the erudite and bold SDP candidate is seen by many as one that can bring the state misrule d by Bello back on track. What is more, Murtala Yakubu Ajaka reminds many of the late Abubakar Audu. Like the late Audu who is remembered with nostalgia as the most impactful and successful leader ever to govern the state the young and pragmatic Yakubu Ajaka is bright, bold and courageous.
Apart from the late Audu Murtala Yakubu Ajaka also reminds the people of Kogi nay Nigeria of the nation s late pragmatic leader: General Murtala Ramat Muhammad.
More than four decades after the assassination of this great leader, Nigerians continue to remember him as the most result -oriented leader to govern Nigeria. The people of Kogi are feeling a sense of need and necessity to entrust this young man Ajaka, with the governance of Kogi.
Having suffered in the hands of Yahaya Bello and other plunders of the Commonwealth and unprecedented tyranny in the last eight years many people and the electorate feel highly insulted by the outgoing governor s agenda of foisting his cousin, Ahmed Ododo to continue the misrule and decimation of the state.
The attempt to enthrone a monarchy in the state by Bello is giving Ajaka the required impetus to prevail in the coming election. He is seen as the saving grace, the avenging angel of millions of the oppressed people of the state who see Bello and his puppet Ododo as a great design to prolong their suffering and servitude.
This has been underscored by the massive turn out and reception for Ajaka in Idah, Anyingba Ankpa, Abejukolo, Lokoja and many other places he visited recently. Men and women, youths and others from all walks of life were on hand to catch a glimpse of the emerging leader who is making Bello and his team most uncomfortable and developing grey hair.
