Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic holds combined convocation, graduates 30,705

No few than 30,705 graduands of Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic (IMAP) Lafia, in various disciplines were receiving award of Diplomas, certificates and prizes at the second combined – 2014 – 2022 convocation of the institution.
Dr Justina Kotso, IMAP Rector, disclosed this during the ceremony in Lafia, Nasarawa State Capital.
She said that 7 compatriots who had distinguished themselves in public, professional and community services were also awarded with fellowship of the institution.
Dr Kotso said the second combined convocation was the first under administration of Gov Abdullahi Sule, the visitor to the institution, and also the second since the inception of the Polytechnic 23 years ago and first as Rector.
“Today’s event was preceded by two days of commissioning of projects, pre – convocation lecture and exhibition of the Polytechnic’s research and creativity.
She listed projects commissioned to include, a block of female hostel, architectural studio, a block of 2 laboratories and 2 workshop for civil engineering department.
Kotso, while expressing appreciation to Gov Sule for providing funds for the institution, reaffirmed the institution commitment to the pursuit of professional excellence for the development of Nasarawa state.
She thanked National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and Federal Ministry of Education for their tremendous regulatory direction and special interventions that contributed to infrastructural development of the institution.
Kotso said under her watch as Rector, the polytheistic had submitted 20 programmes for accreditation to offer National and Higher National Diplomas to NBTE, noting that they were all approved.
“The accredited programmes include for the first time in the history of the institution, the core areas of civil engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, quantity surveying and estate management and evaluation,” she said.
In his remarks, the visitor to the Polytechnic, Gov Abdullahi Sule said technical education remain a veritable too towards addressing the challenges confronting mankind with a view to bringing about self reliance and social transformation.
Sule who represented by his deputy, Dr Emmanuel Akabe said the need to impact enduring skills in the young people was significant to the advancement of the state.
“It is for this reason since assumption of office, we continue to allocate the high percentage of annual budget for development of education sector particularly technical education.
He said Government would continue to allocate and release funds to cater for regular salaries and allowances of staff, staff recruitment, training needs, equipment, funding of Programme accreditation, students bursaries.
Gov Sule appreciated the support of TETFUND, international agencies and public spirited individuals in complementing the effort of the state government.
