NAN NUJ gets new chairman
Mr Martins Odeh, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ ), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) chapter, has promised to partner relevant organisations to boost the capacity of members of the union.
Odeh made the pledge after his swearing-in as the new Chairman of the union in Abuja of Friday.
He said the union would help to push for the actualisation of the quest for a new condition of service in NAN to ensure better welfare for workers.
Odeh also said that he would partner groups in the media to upgrade the standard of NAN newsroom and work to ensure good working relationship between the management and staff.
He promised to arouse more interest of journalists in NAN in NUJ activities.
“The commitment of the members here is low and we also need to raise a little and let them see the reason why they should participate in NUJ’s activities and we also talk on how we can use our collective efforts to improve our collective welfare.’’
Swearing in the new chairman, the FCT NUJ Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Ogbeche, urged members to be committed to the union and ensure they performed their duties professionally.
Also, Mrs Ifeyiwa Omowole, the President of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, urged Odeh and members of his executive to work with the management to ensure the approval of the NAN condition of service.
Odeh was elected to replace Mrs Yetunde Bada, who left the post to pursue further studies. (NAN)
