Governor Sule may have it tough in 2023
By Francis Nansak
All is not well for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State as Governor Abdullahi Sule is fast losing some of his political power brokers.
This may be related to the party primaries on Thursday which was marred by delay of electoral materials in most of the local government area of the state.
It was seen as disenfranchising the authentic delegates earlier elected during wards and local government congresses.
The development led to frustrating some of the delegates and aspirants for the state house of assembly as it culminated to stalemate of the process, until the next day and against the authentic list of the delegates.
Consequent to this undemocratic process unfolding, the state governor is worse hit as those affected by the introduction of a new list of delegates have since boycotted both state house and the national assembly primary elections.
Among the top politicians who could not withstand the shame and unpalatable process to the election includes Aliyu Ahmed Wadada, Jonathan Gaza, Senator Godiya Akwashiki and thousands of their supporters.
Wadada, who was two-time member House of Representatives for Karu, Keffi and Kokona Federal Constituency is the Chairman, Peugeot Automobile of Nigeria (PAN). He was second runner up in the 2019 governorship general election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Senator Akwashiki, was former deputy speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly and Senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District while Gaza, who clinch the position in 2015 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, however defected to the All Progressives Congress in 2021.
It was gathered that in Nasarawa West Zone that the new delegate list would not have favour them which necessitated their boycott of the primary on Saturday.
Apex News Exclusive report that Governor Sule had enjoyed massive support from Wadada who immediately after the 2018 governorship primary led all his supporter to vote for the incumbent governor. It helped in the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate David Ombugadu in 2019.
As the 2023 general election is around the corner, the Governor Sule will need a politician in the calibre of Wadada which may not be easy to come by in order to scale through as the PDP candidate and those who contested along with him in the just concluded PDP governorship primary have team up together to ensure that PDP return to power in 2023.
