Nasarawa State Government said it has procured another set of electric vehicles to be distributed to cooperative societies, institutions, and groups to be used within the state.

Dr Labaran Magaji, Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State(SSG), announced this on Thursday in Lafia during a meeting with the cooperative societies, institutions, and various groups in the state.

Dr Magaji, represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Administration, Office SSG, Mr Ja’afara – Yakubu Loko, said the initiative was aimed at empowering the citizenry to be self-reliant.

The Secretary to Government explained that the vehicles and tricycles would be used for commercial purposes to generate income for the beneficiaries thereby lifting members out of poverty.

Magaji said the electric vehicles and tricycles would be distributed to the various beneficiaries at zero interest.

He, however, noted that being a revolving scheme, the beneficiaries were expected to repay the exact amount used to purchase the vehicles within a period of 48 months to enable other people to benefit from the scheme.

“The idea here is that the vehicle belongs to the group, and there must be a sound internal control system that should be established among you to get the right person to handle the vehicle.

“We have made arrangements for you to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU), the repayment duration is 48 months.

“It is a non-interest empowerment, you are to repay the exact amount the vehicle was procured. Please as you are collecting this property, we are going to work with you in partnership,” he said.

The State Scribe described empowerment under the leadership of Gov Abdullahi Sule as a paradigm shift, given the level of support and empowerment the administration has extended to the citizenry.

Magaji urged people of Nasarawa State to continue to support the administration of Gov Sule and live in peace with one another to attract more development to the state.

Speaking on behalf of prospective Beneficiaries, Barau-Nuhu Best, Provost, College of Education, Akwanga, applauded the initiative of the state government under the leadership of Gov Sule.

According to him, the initiative is a clear indication that the governor is very interested in seeing that prosperity is enthroned and poverty eradicated in the state to make life convenient and easy for the citizenry.

“We are grateful to the governor for coming up with this initiative for the prosperity of the state. We are also grateful to SSG, who decided to take this governor initiative and run with it.

“We must reciprocate by doing what we ought to do to meet up with demands and the agreement that has been reached. We must give the governor 100 per cent support for the success of this initiative,” he said.

Also speaking, Muhammed Iliyasu Ede, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs, Office of SSG, appealed to the beneficiaries of the initiative to justify the confidence reposed in them by the governor and ensure timely remittance so that others could benefit from the scheme.

It will be recalled that the Nasarawa State Government had recently empowered various youth and women groups with over 100 electric vehicles and 50 tricycles.
