Nasarawa cabinet dissolution: Group agitates for commissioner slot, urges Governor Sule to consider youths

A youth leadership and development organisation, Youth O’clock Advancement Association in Nasarawa State, has appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule to appoint suitably qualified youths into his government as commissioners.

Our correspondent reports that Governor Sule, had over a week ago, dissolved his cabinet, including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), maintaining that a new cabinet would be reconstituted in a few weeks for better efficiency and performance.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lafia, the state capital on Monday, Usman Adamu-Galadima, the state coordinator of the association, said youths as responsible pillars of development should be considered for commissionership to contribute their quota in the Sule-led administration.

Galadima stated that since the dissolution of the Governor’s previous cabinet, the youths witnessed no presence in the subsequent cabinets in order to enable them contribute immensely in the administration.

His words: “To do this, the Youth O’clock Nigeria as a dynamic and comprehensive initiative designed to mobilize and champion the cause of our youths, strongly and unequivocally wishes to advocate for the inclusion of highly reputable, responsible, capable and innovative youths in the yet-to-be-reconstituted Executive Council for the sake of inclusivity, productivity, tolerance and equity in Sule-led administration.

“Having the youth in His Excellency’s government will nurture a new generation of leaders, mentors and guardians that will be ready to take over the mantle of leadership at all times of need.”

He, however, maintained that the members of the yet-to-be-reconstituted cabinets should reflect. “”Experiential competence, exposure, commitment and proven integrity to engender productivity and proficiency in governance.”

He appreciated the Governor for his youth empowerment programmes which he said were geared towards revitalizing the entrepreneurial contents of the youth population for socio-economic growth.

“Additionally, His Excellency must be reminded that the calibre of people to be brought to the next cabinet will be a symbol of his unflinching commitment to the inextricable service of the state.

These must be people with experiential competence, exposure, commitment and proven integrity to the service of our dear Nasarawa State. We are obliged to posit that the government has demonstrated serious concern in engendering productivity and proficiency in governance, which are affirmed in the Governor’s recent speeches,” he added.

He then explained that the youth group would be supportive and constructively critical of the government when it was necessary as citizens and development partners.
