Nasarawa Governor Sule renames Shendam Road in honour of late Buhari as Adamu, Al-Makura, others pay tribute to former President

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has renamed Shendam Road, the major road traversing the state capital, through the Three-Arms Zone, after the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
Governor Sule revealed this during a special prayer session organized in honour of the late Buhari which held at the Palace of the Emir of Lafia Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.
The Governor said in order to immortalise the name of the former president, his administration would send an executive bill for a legal backing changing Shendam Road to Muhammadu Buhari Way.
The special prayer session provided an opportunity for Governor Sule, leaders and people of Nasarawa State to eulogize the late president Buhari who died on Sunday, 13th July and was buried on Tuesday, 15th July 2025 according to Islamic rites in Daura.
The governor said, Nasarawa State will not forget the late Buhari because the former president considered the state his second home after Katsina.
He, however, described the late Buhari as a symbol of honesty, discipline, and integrity, whose lifestyle provide something for everyone to learn from.
Sule used the opportunity of the event to express his appreciation to distinguished sons and daughters of the state, especially the two former governors, as well as the Emir of Lafia, HRH Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed I, for their accepting to travel with him on short notice to Katsina and Daura on condolence visit to the immediate family of the late Buhari.
His words, “I want to sincerely thank you for this gesture. I want to thank you for accepting to show respect for this great man. I want to show appreciation to all our sons and daughters that I saw representing Nasarawa State physically during the burial on Tuesday and with all testimonies and various comments not only in the newspapers but also on the social media.”
He said Nasarawa will not forget the late president because Buhari considered Nasarawa State as his second home.
The Governor took out time to highlight various interventions by the former president which have endeared him to the people of the state, including the unprecedented two-day working visit to the state, his support to ensure lasting security prevails in the state, as well as granting approval for not only the takeover of the then Lafia Cargo Airport but also for refunding the money spent by the state government in building the airport.
Governor Sule equally appreciated President Bola Tinubu for according his predecessor maximum respect by directing that the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, was on ground to accompany the body of the late Buhari from London and to physically received the body in Katsina.
“We want to thank President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for the respect he accorded the former president. No head of state, no president has received this unprecedented support during his burial like Muhammadu Buhari. We want to thank the President for sending the Vice President to London to escort the body back and to be on ground in Katsina to receive the body,” he added.
Our correspondent also reports that during the session, prayers were offered by both Muslim and Christian clerics for the repose of soul of the late Muhammadu Buhari, with leaders of the state taking turns to eulogize the late president.
First civilian governor of the state and former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, commended Governor Sule for the initiative to immortalise the name of the former president.
“This effort to immortalise the president through these prayers, I am very sure that not only members of his immediate family but all of us his admirers, his subjects when he was president, appreciate this and we praise the efforts of His Excellency, the Governor and our father, the Emir of Lafia for initiating this prayers in memory of our president, Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.
On his part, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, the initiative by Governor Sule and Emir of Lafia to hold a special prayer session in Lafia after that of Katsina, is in order, especially that the late Buhari considered Nasarawa as his second home.
“It is not out of place that after the prayers in Katsina, you decided to ensure that we hold a special prayer for the repose of our leader. Even in his grave, he would be happy that his second home have given him more than a consideration, thank you, Your Excellency.
“I am overwhelmed by emotion. I will not be able to say much. Because if anybody will talk about General Buhari, apart from his family, if you talk about politics in Nigeria, I can say without any equivocation that I am his political son. President Buhari so like Lafia, so like Nasarawa State because during the 2011 general elections, of all the 36 states in the federation, Nasarawa State was the only state that was able to deliver the CPC the political party of Muhammadu Buhari. That has remained indelible in his psyche that at any given opportunity he identifies with Nasarawa State,” he said.
Earlier, Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, said the initiative by Governor Sule to hold the speculation prayer session supported by the Emir of Lafia, is commendable and worthy of emulation.
“For the Governor to have thought of this and supported by our Royal Father, it is quite commendable and a good gesture. We are not only doing it for President Buhari, but we are doing it for ourselves. Whatever good you do to whoever, it is as well extended to you. We are gathered here today because President Buhari was not just a president. He was a president and the president that Nasarawa State can not afford to forget. Because during his time, the late Buhari patronised Nasarawa State. He appointed our sons and daughters to high places,” he said.
Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Justice Aisha Bashir, Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, PhD, as well as the Aren Eggon, HRH Retired Justice Ahmed Ubangari, who spoke onbehalf of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, all paid glowing tribute to the late president Muhammadu Buhari.
